Wells Fargo encourages squirrels to stop burying acorns, start earning interest
CHARLOTTE — Wells Fargo announced Monday that local squirrels can now deposit previously buried acorns into new high-yield savings accounts, part of what the bank calls an effort to bring billions in idle nut assets back into circulation this spring.
“Those acorns are just sitting underground doing nothing,” said branch manager Karen Beetle. “With the right account, they could be growing.” At press time, several squirrels were reportedly considering the offer but said they first needed to remember where they buried everything.
